Disaster Preparedness and Management

The passage and implementation of requisite legislation will further legitimize this program area’s role and authority in coordinating disaster risk management at all levels.

The Office of the Prime Minister intends to establish mechanisms for extensive and continuous data gathering on risk and risk reduction impacts in the long and short-terms and the accurate analyses and reporting of these against various regional and international targets.

National oil spill readiness has been prioritised given the new and emerging threats associated with this developing national industry.

Power Generation

Now, more than ever, the world requires a reliable supply of electricity to prevent further disruption, and Guyana is no exception. Government is committed to work assiduously to implement the necessary measures that can contribute to an improved standard of life for our people through the generation of cheap and sufficient power.

Telecommunications and Innovation

Guyana has made many strides in the innovation of ICTs and this creates room for our country to learn and adopt international best-practices. This area is responsible for the development of a National ICT Strategy and accompanying legislation. The plan will provide a multi-sectoral blueprint that Guyana will use to ensure the successful development and deployment of ICT for the advancement of all Guyanese.

There is tremendous potential for ICTs to be applied for growth in all sectors including health, education, security, infrastructure, agriculture and social development.

Government Information and Communication Services

This program area has as its vision; to encourage and maintain harmonious relations with the Broadcasting Community and consumers, create an enabling environment for the development of local content while engendering a sense of pride, professionalism and adoption of best practices. The provision of quality broadcasting services is a fundamental aspiration in this program area’s drive for human capacity building in the Media and Communication sub-sector. A Media and Communications Academy was therefore launched on May 3, 2022 as part of World Press Freedom Day observances.
